Meet Neri Choma
M.A., Founder
Neri Life-Choma, MA, is a mother, veteran childbirth educator, birth doula, and doula trainer, and the founder of Birth Coach Method. For the last 25 years, she has worked with individuals and couples as they prepared for the transformation of giving birth and becoming parents. During these years Life-Choma directed and managed the programs of two birth resource centers with great results in the community reach out and creating change in maternal care.
Neri’s work with parents has been enriched by continuing her education and becoming a transformational life coach, hypnotherapist, and NLP practitioner. Neri has integrated principles and strategies of all these modalities of care into birth support in her book The Art of Coaching for Childbirth, which has been sold on Amazon with raving reviews. Neri leads the Tarnsformtional Birth Support Coaching Course which keeps attracting birth professionals from all over the globe.

Insurance coverage for doula care is expanding, creating new opportunities for doulas who want to build sustainable professional practices. Requirements vary by state, insurance company, and individual plan.
Birth Coach Method training meets the educational requirements for doula practice in California, including the core training topics required under the Medi-Cal training pathway. Graduates receive a certificate of completion documenting their training.
A training certificate is only one part of provider enrollment and reimbursement. Medi-Cal and other reimbursement pathways may have additional requirements, so doulas should verify the current requirements for the pathway they plan to use.

Bay Area Doula Training FAQ
How is the Bay Area doula training structured?
The Birth Coach Method doula program combines 15 recorded online classes, six live Zoom sessions totaling 18 contact hours, two hands-on workshops, and real-world client experience. Bay Area-specific dates and local workshop details will be listed with the current cohort information.
Can I begin before the next Bay Area cohort starts?
Yes. Students can enroll for access to the recorded online classes and begin self-study before the live cohort meetings begin. Live contact hours are offered in fall and spring.
Will I receive a doula training certificate?
Yes. After successfully completing the certification requirements, you’ll receive a printable training certificate from Birth Coach Method.
How long does it take to complete the program?
The requirements can be completed in approximately seven months. Because students have different schedules and birth opportunities, most complete all certification requirements within one year of registration.
How will I get the clients I need to earn my certificate?
You won’t be left to figure this out on your own. Birth Coach Method supports students in reaching out to their communities until they enroll the clients they need toward their certificate requirements.
Will I learn how to establish my doula practice?
Yes. The training includes practical information and strategies for launching a professional practice, including:
